EXPIRATION DATE CHANGE AND NEW RENEWAL CYCLE
Who: Persons holding a Colorado license to practice as a Residential Wireman, Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor.
What: The expiration date has changed for licenses that expire on February 28, 2011. The new expiration date is September 30, 2011. From then on, licenses will expire September 30th every three years.* As a result of this change you will not need to renew your license by the previous expiration date of February 28, 2011. You will be notified
6-8 weeks prior to the new expiration date of September 30, 2011.
When: New wallet cards will be mailed to licensees during the month of November 2010. The wallet cards and all correspondence will be mailed to the most recent address DORA has on file for your license. You may verify your
address and make changes at: https://www.doradls.state.co.us/
*Although the new renewal expiration date is September 30 every three years, licensees will continue to have a 2 month day grace period through November 30 to complete the requirements and renew.
CONTINUING COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Who: Electricians holding a Colorado license to practice as Residential Wireman, Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician
What: New legislation from the 2009 legislative session, House Bill 09-1136 resulted in a new addition to statute, §12-23-106, C.R.S, which requires Residential Wireman, Journeyman Electrician and Master Electrician licensees to participate in the Electrician’s Continuing Competency (CC) Program in order to renew their license.
When: In order to renew a license that expires September 30, 2011, any licensed Residential Wireman, Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician must:
1. Complete the 2011 Individual Assessment administered by Pearson Vue on or after July 1, 2011.
a. The Individual Assessment is divided into four core competency areas.
b. You may use the most recent code book to complete the Individual Assessment.
c. Your score will be sent to the Board.
d. Renew your license in 2011.
e. Accrue 24 Professional Development Units (PDUs) prior to the expiration of your license in 2014.
f. If your Individual Assessment results (Step 1) are at or above the Acceptable Level of Performance (ALP) in all core competency areas, you will be awarded the full 24 PDUs. You do not need to accrue any PDUs.
g. Any licensee whose Assessment results are below the ALP in any category must follow a Learning Plan to accrue PDUs.
If your score falls below the ALP in:
One core competency area: you must accrue 8 PDUs
Two core competency areas: you must accrue 16 PDUs
Three or more core competency areas: you must accrue 24 PDUs.
d. Access and update your Learning Plan online at the DORA Continuing Competence website.
e. You may accrue PDUs by completing approved Continuing Competency Activities: non-credit academic courses; for-credit academic courses; industry training programs.
f. Complete the 2014 Individual Assessment on or after July 1, 2014 (repeat Step 1 with updated Code).
Renew your license in 2014.

288 HOUR TRAINING REQUIREMENT FOR APPRENTICES
Who: Any apprentice registering on or after January 1, 2011.
What: New legislation from the 2009 legislative session, House Bill 09-1136 resulted in a new addition to statute, §12-23-106, C.R.S., which requires apprentices seeking a Journeyman licenses to complete 288 training hours in
addition to existing criteria.
When: Any apprentice registering on or after January 1, 2011.
Apprenticeship Training Criteria:
Apprentices registering on or after January 1, 2011 must meet existing criteria and accrue an additional 288 hours of training prior to taking the exam. The 288 hours of training must be in: safety; National Electric Code and
applications; any other accredited/approved Board requirements.
